PERUÁNSKÉ POSTŘEHY - Peruvian insights, Recuerdos del Perú

The most distinguished tourist personality that met Peru and Bolivia in the second half of the 20th century was Václav Šolc (1919-1995), the director of the Náprstek Museum in Prague. In the first half of the 1960s he lived on Lake Titicaca, in the mid-1970s he traveled at the heart of the Inca Empire and met the author of Peruvian insights there. Among other things, the personalities of Václav Šolc and Miloslav Stingl (1930) propose the author and his Peruvian insights with the general interest of the Czech and Slovak society on the original culture of Andean countries. Everyone was fascinated by Latin America. They have tried, successfully, to realize their ideas: to visit, to know and to describe distant spaces for Europeans. In this context, Otto Horský's "Peruvian insights" bring testimony of the continuity of Czech interest in the non-European cultural reference to the example of South America. For those interested in the history of Czechoslovak economic policy towards Latin America, Peru is an interesting and beneficial author's information on Czechoslovakian activities in the Andean region.

BÁJNÉ JETERO TITICACA - Mythical Lake Titicaca, El Mítigo Lago Titicaca

Mythical Lake Titicaca describes the history and prehistory of the settlement of the lake from 1200 BCE to the present day. It also deals with the history of the lake in Pleistocene and the Holocene, the state of the lake at the end of the ice age until today, the influence of melting glaciers on Lake Titicaca and the Altiplano plateau, assesses the ecological problems of the lake at present. The book expresses the opinion whether there is a threat or risk of extinction of the lake as a result of global warming, the author deals with the question of the influence of sunspots on the level of the lake, evaluates the influence of the El Nino phenomenon on the lake basin. From a reader's point of view, there are interesting findings about the possible occurrence of dinosaurs in the area, whether there was Atlantis in the Altiplana area, and how Urs live on the floating islands on the Lake of the Third Millennium. In addition to scientific knowledge, the book provides a popular form of visual testimony of the landscape and man in the lake, particularly about the form of life and habits of local Indian communities.

ZÁHADNÉ JEZERO TITICACA A ALTIPLANO - Misterioso Lago Titicaca y Altiplano

The professional interest of the Czech lands in Latin America has its centuries-old tradition. At its inception, the Jesuit missions of the 17th and 18th centuries were followed by the interest of traveler and the economic and cultural cooperation of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Titicaca.2004.CZ expedition project, guaranteed by Czech experts from universities and specialist workplaces, was primarily aimed at describing the current status of Lake Titicaca, both in its natural and social dimensions. The studies focused mainly on the historical and topographic description of the lake and its mainland background, including the picture documentation, geographic and biological contexts, after recording the current information on the status of cultural heritage and the shores and islands of the lake. That is, documentation of the landscape and human presence as they were found in 2004.
The acquired technical knowledge supplements the tradition of Czech Latin-American culture, which has been highlighted in the last decade by successful documentation of the sources of Amazon (B. Janský, 2000), recently by discovering mysterious rock engravings over the ruins of Incawasi near Huayatara (O. Horský, 2004). The book, in addition to scientific knowledge, provides a popular form of visual testimony of the landscape and man in the lake, particularly about the form of life and habits of local Indian communities.

INCAWASI SÍDLO BOHŮ - Incawasi - the seat of the gods,  Incawasi – la sede de los Dioses

The great interest in Peru, which has been shown to the author since the childhood, led him to co-organize the expedition "Titicaca 2004, CZ" which, in addition to scientific, topographic and socioeconomic studies, should provide a visual testimony of the landscape and man in Lake Titicaca on the threshold of the third millennium, especially on the form of life and habits of local Indian communities. The book "Incawasi - the seat of the gods" is also one of the results of studies conducted during the Titicaca expedition. Their concepts were based on comparative studies at other archaeological sites that preceded their own works subsequently carried out on Lake Titicaca. These include, in particular, the area around Cuzca, especially Sacsayhuaman, Puca Pucara, Kenko, Tambo Machay, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, among others. The value of some working hypotheses is demonstrated by field studies.
The basic chapters of the book deal with the renowned architecture of the Incas and the materials they used to build their monumental buildings, such as Ken's Shrines, food warehouses, administrative and defensive buildings such as Sacsayhuaman, Incawasi and Tambo Colorado among others. The presentation of some interesting examples is documented not only by the author of the book but also by the paintings of the painter Karel Janák. The author compares the archaeological remains in Incawasi, near Huayatara, with similar ruins in Machu Picchu, as they also used Inca stones and blocks perfectly tailored. In this place, on the slope before entering the ruins, the author discovered rocky engravings and drawings, probably of religious significance, on the walls of rock formations. Although several hundreds of similar engravings or rock drawings are registered in Peru, especially in Altiplano in the valley between the mountains, each new and well-documented discovery benefits to a better understanding of pre-Columbian cultures. Rock formations or rock engraving blocks from this period are mostly found in an open landscape where they are embedded and accessible to any visitor. Therefore, with good intent, the author of the book warns against uncontrolled tourism and recommends taking vigorous measures to prevent further damage. The book extends knowledge of the traces of man and of the previous cultures inhabiting today's Peru. It adds to many of the other written testimonies made by Czech researchers and experts in the past and nowadays.

KŘIVOLAKÉ CESTY OSUDU - The Curse of Destiny, El tortuoso camino del Destino

This book can be considered as an integral part of the author's autobiography. He has been remembered for years in Peru, where as a business associate and head of a technical office at our Embassy in Lima, he had to secure the development of scientific and technical cooperation between Peru and Czechoslovakia, while fighting for the life of his wife, Olga, dying of cancer. It is not only a demonstration of the good level of Peruvian healing practices in this area, but also a demonstration of the genuine effort of the entire Czechoslovak colony at the time in Lima to create optimal conditions for its treatment and a safe environment, significantly strengthening its psyche, so important in this disease. The author of the book has been preparing for the role of a foreign expert of fourteen years, who, in 1974, went along with his wife Olga and daughter Viola to meet the fateful fulfillment of their desires. The technical office has successfully built up and has brought its activity and still brings its fruit. Undoubtedly, it can be said that its introduction in life can be considered as the beginning of a successful development of scientific and technical cooperation, especially in the fields of engineering geology and geotechnics, and in water engineering. His wife Olga's life, however, has failed to save all the efforts. After an early return to Czechoslovakia, she succumbed to this insidious disease.

JEZERO TITICACA NA POKRAJI TŘETÍHO TISÍCILETÍ - Titicaca Lake, on the verge of the third millennium, El Lago Titicaca al borde del tercer milenio.

The book Titicaca Lake, on the verge of the third millennium, deals with the historical, topographical and socioeconomic description of the lake and its mainland. Because the lake itself is inherent in the entire hydrological system of the altiplana in which it plays a decisive role due to its size, the introductory chapters focus on the entire hydrological system of Titicaca, Desaguadero and Lake Poopó and Salar de Coipasa (TDPS). The book not only describes the history and prehistory of the settlement of the lake and its surroundings but also deals with its evolution in Pleistocene and the Holocene to the present day. It seeks to answer the following questions in particular: Is the lake threatened with extinction due to the global warming of our planet and the melting of glaciers? Does sunlight playing an important role on the surface of the lake? What effect does the "El Niño" phenomenon have on the lake and its surroundings? Is it possible to stop or stop an ecological disaster threatening the lake due to contamination? Could the Tiwanaku be a legend, sometimes a port, into which the Thuyawans brought large stone megablocks over the lake? The book contains a comprehensive assessment of the geology of the area, as the geological composition of the area plays a decisive role in the development of subsequent endogenous and exogenous processes shaping the morphological character of the landscape. Important chapters are those dealing with the environmental issues of Titicaca and Altiplana and the ecological problems of the Punisha Bay. In order to diversify, the book deals in detail with the life of the Urs on the floating islands of Lake Titicaca, the folklore of the area, shamanism, but also with the education of the population and the problems associated with mountain sickness. The conclusion of the book is the foreign replies, the bibliography and the author's biography.

PŘEŽIJE JEZERO TITICACA TŘETÍ TISÍCILETÍ? - Survive Lake Titicaca for the third millennium?, Sobrevivirá el Lago Titicaca el tercer milenio?

Does the book survive Lake Titicaca for the third millennium? is the resultant summary of the knowledge and works of the author made both in the field during the Titicaca 2004 expedition and the return to their homeland. To compile the book, he also used a very extensive literature, both in book form and on the Internet. The book immediately builds on its books on the subject, but it differs in particular from the quality of graphic design and high quality print on chalk paper, in color and with a solid binding in the B5 format, which allows the readability and usability of geological maps and images and documents. The book has 205 pages. Like its previous books, it deals with the historical-topographic and socioeconomic description of the lake and its mainland background and, given the question, it deals with its evolution in the Pleistocene and the Holocene to the present day. Will Titicaca survive the third millennium? This is what the author chose intentionally, especially as discussions over climatologists, archaeologists and historians, as well as professionals from different professions have been developing over the last decade, whether the lake is going through global climate change. As the author states in the chapter on the development of the lake in the Pleistocene to the Holocene, the entire Altiplano plateau has undergone a very complex geological and geomorphological development, accompanied by various flooding of the area, to today's Lake Titicaca, whose age is estimated at around 12 000 years. Climate change in the past, marked by several ice-cold and warmer inter-glacier interglacials, was much greater than it is today, and there has never been any end of the lake or endanger its existence. From this, it can be assumed that if there are no catastrophic events due to the collapse of the South American lithospheric plate with the Pacific Plate, it is hard to assume that only ongoing climate change would have a major impact on the existence of the lake. The author's conclusions are in contradiction with the views of some experts who assume that global climate change caused by man will lead to its disappearance quite quickly. This conclusion was reached mainly on the basis of the data on the permanent decrease of the water level in the years 2005 to 2011. As the author rightly assumed, the level of the lake will again rise to a normal level from 2012 and especially its height in 2013 and the beginning of 2014 convincingly.

Will Lake Titicaca survive the third millennium? The second expanded edition. Sobrevivirá el Lago Titicaca el tercer milenio? La segunda edición ampliada.

The first edition of the book on glossy paper, in a colorful design and with a fixed B5 format, has become a very expensive issue due to its luxurious design. For these reasons, the author proceeded to publish a book in electronic form on a CD in hard and colored paper packaging, reducing the cost per tenth of the price. Moreover, the book on CD is a very practical tool for users, allowing them to make full use of their colors and their magnification and application for practical purposes in pictures, especially geological maps and graphs. Its low price has also been made available to students and to all those interested in the Lake Titicaca problem. Additionally, the electronic form of the book allowed it to be expanded with some new chapters and other color photographs. Most of these author's photos were also part of several exhibitions in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic and were published in books or magazines.

CESTOPISNÉ ČRTY Z LEVÉ A PRAVÉ KAPSY - Traveling features from the left and right pockets. Bosquejo de viajes de bolsillos izquierdo y derecho.

Traveling features from the left and right pockets. Why is this book name? Is it just a random fiction or a meaningful intent? The first attempts by the author of a book about writing travelogues dates back to 1961, when he published several articles in the local newspaper Rozkvět Novojicka. It was a description of his visit to the Western Slavs, Rujana and the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee. It was the testimony of his first "trip" abroad, then with his partner, later with Olga. Between 1961 and 1976, until its premature death, many of them have gone abroad, some of which are recorded in the author's separate books, others still in manuscript notes, some in this book. These include the feature of a visit to the Lima Inquisition in 1975 and the incredible experiences of a geologist, Loreto Manoel Córd-Ríos, who was captured by the Indians in the Peruvian jungle, and after more than ten years of capture he managed to escape. This is the content of the first part of the book titled "Traveling Traits from the Left Pocket".
"Traveling traits from the right pocket" are already a later date  and do not include Peru records because they are contained in separate books.
